Innocence becomes Wealth

What this change means

Fire above heaven, a wide light: the second, third and fifth lines move, and Innocence becomes 14 Wealth. Since three lines change, the meaning rests on both judgments. In Innocence, a clear conscience is what lets good things in, and a crooked aim invites calamity. The resulting hexagram describes abundance, inner and outer, and asks you to keep your character centered and practice generosity so that the wealth lasts and reaches others. The link is straightforward. Prosperity is the moment when hidden motives are most tempting and most costly. Stay as sincere with plenty as you were without it. Don't let gain change why you do things. Share, support good work, and hold back what's harmful. Plenty that flows outward tends to last; plenty hoarded or used for private schemes tends to turn into obstacles.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. The judgment of 25 Innocence

If you act with a pure heart, free of hidden motives and without straying from what is right, true to original human nature, you'll let the blessings of heaven reach you. Otherwise you'll meet obstacles and your affairs will become difficult.

Great success. Constancy is favorable. If it is not upright, there is calamity. It is not favorable to have somewhere to go.

  2. The judgment of 14 Wealth

A time of abundance and prosperity, both inner and outer. It's important to keep your character centered and to cultivate good deeds and generosity, so that this wealth lasts and reaches others.

    Great success.

  3. Line 2 of 25 Innocence

Doing your work without thinking about what you'll get from it is the way to succeed.

Not plowing with the harvest in mind, not clearing land with the ripe field in mind: then it is favorable to have somewhere to go.

  4. Line 3 of 25 Innocence

Watch and act at the right time, because a good deed done at the wrong moment turns out badly.

An undeserved calamity: someone tied up an ox; the traveler takes it, and the calamity falls on the villagers.

  5. Line 5 of 25 Innocence

If adverse things happen to you that aren't caused by your own negligence, don't worry: little by little things will straighten out until they're back on course.

An undeserved illness. Take no medicine: there will be joy.
