Abundance becomes Excesses

What this change means

As the first, second and fifth lines change, Fire turns to Wind and Thunder to Lake, the image of water rising over trees. Three lines move, so two judgments share the weight. Abundance says the peak is worth enjoying and that its passing is no cause for sorrow. The resulting hexagram, 28 Excesses, describes a situation that calls for unusual measures if what you've built is not to give way. Inspect and shore up the foundations under your projects, and be willing to step out of your comfort zone with new approaches. Without that, losses become hard to avoid. So the fullness has reached a point where it strains its supports. Don't simply enjoy the height. Look underneath it, reinforce what carries the weight, and act boldly where caution alone won't hold.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. The judgment of 55 Abundance

You're growing toward a period of satisfaction and abundance. It will last for a while, and when it ends, stay calm, without sadness or worry. Enjoy it while it lasts, and when it wanes, keep your spirits up and enjoy what you've achieved.

Success. The king reaches it. Do not grieve: the noonday sun is fitting.

  2. The judgment of 28 Excesses

You're in a situation that calls for extraordinary measures to keep what you've achieved from collapsing. Check and strengthen the foundations that hold up your projects, take innovative action and step out of your comfort zone. That way your success is assured; otherwise, loss can't be avoided.

The ridgepole sags. It is favorable to have somewhere to go. Success.

  3. Line 1 of 55 Abundance

It's a very favorable time, but it asks for determined, energetic action from you to make the results greater.

Meets the lord who is its match. Even for ten days, no fault. Going earns esteem.

  4. Line 2 of 55 Abundance

Although you're resolved and conditions are good for getting what you want, the wrong people are standing in your way. If you keep doing what's right and don't let yourself be pulled off course, you'll succeed.

Full is the awning: at noon the Dipper is seen. Going earns suspicion and harm. If there is sincere trust that unfolds, good fortune.

  5. Line 5 of 55 Abundance

You're willing to listen to advice and act on it; this will make difficult situations give way naturally.

Brilliance comes; there is blessing and renown. Good fortune.
