Abundance becomes Innocence

What this change means

Thunder under Heaven is the figure when the third, fifth and top lines move. The weight is split between two judgments. Abundance holds up the image of thunder and lightning arriving together, a fullness that is real and passing. The resulting hexagram, 25 Innocence, says that acting with a pure heart, without hidden motives and without straying from what's right, lets the blessings of heaven reach you; otherwise obstacles appear and your affairs grow difficult. So the fullness depends on sincerity. Check your motives. If there's a hidden agenda behind what you're doing, let it go. Act simply and honestly, true to what you are. The good that comes this way tends to arrive on its own, without being forced. Scheming to keep the abundance is the surest way to lose its ease.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. The judgment of 55 Abundance

You're growing toward a period of satisfaction and abundance. It will last for a while, and when it ends, stay calm, without sadness or worry. Enjoy it while it lasts, and when it wanes, keep your spirits up and enjoy what you've achieved.

Success. The king reaches it. Do not grieve: the noonday sun is fitting.

  2. The judgment of 25 Innocence

If you act with a pure heart, free of hidden motives and without straying from what is right, true to original human nature, you'll let the blessings of heaven reach you. Otherwise you'll meet obstacles and your affairs will become difficult.

Great success. Constancy is favorable. If it is not upright, there is calamity. It is not favorable to have somewhere to go.

  3. Line 3 of 55 Abundance

If your spirits sink, any obstacle, however small, will stop you from reaching what you want.

Full is the curtain: at noon the faint small stars are seen. The right arm is broken. No fault.

  4. Line 5 of 55 Abundance

You're willing to listen to advice and act on it; this will make difficult situations give way naturally.

Brilliance comes; there is blessing and renown. Good fortune.

  5. Line 6 of 55 Abundance

Your pride may get in the way of what you want and delay your success.

Full is the house, the home screened over. Peering through the door: silence, no one there. For three years no one is seen. Misfortune.
