Abundance becomes Activity

What this change means

Heaven doubled appears as the second, fifth and top lines move: all the lines become firm. Two judgments are in balance. Abundance tells of a generous peak and of the calm with which to let it pass. The resulting hexagram, 1 Activity, is the creative principle itself: new beginnings, flourishing, and the qualities you need to carry an undertaking through to success. Heaven moves with strength and doesn't rest. So the fullness turns into pure drive. This is a time to begin and to keep going, with strength and persistence. Just remember what Abundance teaches: no peak lasts forever. Put your energy into building, not into holding on, and when the season shifts, take it in stride. That way the next beginning finds you ready.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. The judgment of 55 Abundance

You're growing toward a period of satisfaction and abundance. It will last for a while, and when it ends, stay calm, without sadness or worry. Enjoy it while it lasts, and when it wanes, keep your spirits up and enjoy what you've achieved.

Success. The king reaches it. Do not grieve: the noonday sun is fitting.

  2. The judgment of 1 Activity

The creative principle. Activity. New beginnings, flourishing, and the qualities you need to carry any undertaking or project through to success.

    Great success. Constancy is favorable.

  3. Line 2 of 55 Abundance

Full is the awning: at noon the Dipper is seen. Going earns suspicion and harm. If there is sincere trust that unfolds, good fortune.

  4. Line 5 of 55 Abundance

You're willing to listen to advice and act on it; this will make difficult situations give way naturally.

Brilliance comes; there is blessing and renown. Good fortune.

  5. Line 6 of 55 Abundance

Your pride may get in the way of what you want and delay your success.

Full is the house, the home screened over. Peering through the door: silence, no one there. For three years no one is seen. Misfortune.
