What this change means
Earth doubled is what remains when the first, third and fourth lines of Abundance change: both Fire and Thunder go quiet. With three lines moving, the reading balances two judgments. Abundance tells you that a time of fullness lasts a while, and that when it wanes you should keep calm and enjoy what you've achieved rather than grieve. The resulting hexagram, 2 Passivity, says this is not the time to take the initiative. Let others guide you, and keep working on your projects patiently. The movement goes from bright activity to receptive waiting. That can feel like a loss, but it doesn't have to be one. Accept the slower pace, follow good guidance where you find it, and keep your effort steady. What you've built doesn't vanish when you stop pushing; patience can be its own kind of strength.
What to read, in order
Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.
- The judgment of 55 Abundance
You're growing toward a period of satisfaction and abundance. It will last for a while, and when it ends, stay calm, without sadness or worry. Enjoy it while it lasts, and when it wanes, keep your spirits up and enjoy what you've achieved.
Success. The king reaches it. Do not grieve: the noonday sun is fitting.
- The judgment of 2 Passivity
This is not the time to take the initiative to achieve things. It's better to let others guide you and to keep at your projects with patience.
Great success. The constancy of a mare is favorable. The noble person has somewhere to go: going ahead, they lose the way; following behind, they find someone to guide them. It is favorable to find friends in the southwest and to lose them in the northeast. Calm constancy brings good fortune.
- Line 1 of 55 Abundance
It's a very favorable time, but it asks for determined, energetic action from you to make the results greater.
Meets the lord who is its match. Even for ten days, no fault. Going earns esteem.
- Line 3 of 55 Abundance
If your spirits sink, any obstacle, however small, will stop you from reaching what you want.
Full is the curtain: at noon the faint small stars are seen. The right arm is broken. No fault.
- Line 4 of 55 Abundance
The shadows and obstacles that came up for a while are beginning to fade. If you act wisely and decisively, everything will go well.
Full is the awning: at noon the Dipper is seen. Meets the lord who is its like. Good fortune.
