Held Back becomes Loss, Then Gain

What this change means

Wind beneath the mountain: with three lines moving, the water drains away and something that has spoiled is exposed. Both judgments are weighed together. Held Back describes advances that keep meeting obstacles, and the work of stepping back to find support. The resulting hexagram, 18 Loss, Then Gain, says that mistakes have brought a decline, and that admitting them and making the needed corrections can lead back to success. It asks you to reflect on what caused the loss and, once you've acted, to give success time to come. Read together, some of what blocked you may have come from your own earlier choices. That isn't a reason for shame. Look at the causes honestly, repair what can be repaired, and bring in people who can help with the work. Then be patient. The recovery tends to arrive after the correction, not alongside it.
