Held Back becomes Lack of Firmness

What this change means

Three lines change and the wind now blows under heaven, where water stood on the mountain. Both judgments speak equally. Held Back describes a road blocked at every step, crossed by pausing, stepping back, and choosing allies who share your aims. The resulting hexagram, 44 Lack of Firmness, warns about the opposite kind of company: unsuitable people or situations that you think you can handle, that you don't take very seriously, perhaps out of habit. Without attention and firm limits, they end up controlling you. Read together, the lesson sharpens. When you're blocked and looking for help, it's easy to accept whatever help appears. Be selective. Lean on people who truly share your purpose, and set clear limits with those who don't, however harmless they seem. Choosing well who stands beside you is part of getting through.
