Clearing Obstacles becomes Decline

What this change means

Heaven above and earth below no longer meet: three lines change, and Clearing Obstacles becomes 12 Decline. The two judgments count alike. Clearing Obstacles tells of trouble resolved, and of the wisdom of withdrawing for a while when that's what's needed. The resulting hexagram describes being surrounded by adverse people and situations; avoid getting involved with them whatever they offer, don't make big decisions, and withdraw to a safe place to wait for change. Put together, the release isn't an open road. The starting hexagram's permission to step back becomes the main counsel. Don't overrate what you can accomplish in this climate. Keep a low profile, refuse attractive offers from the wrong people, and conserve yourself. Conditions tend to change, and what you avoid now is what keeps you free to act when they do.
