Advance becomes Gentleness

Starting hexagram
Resulting hexagram

What this change means

Wind following wind: the second through fifth lines move, and both trigrams become Wind. In 57 Gentleness, the resulting hexagram, the bottom and top lines hold still, and the advice lives there. Its first line warns against indecision; going back and forth will delay you, and firm action is better than wavering. Its top line says that if you lose heart and drop your project because results haven't shown up yet, you can lose what you've already gained. Coming from the open, sunlit advance, this is a quieter movement, success by small steps and soft persistence. Choose a path and stay on it steadily. Don't stall in doubt at the start, and don't give up near the end. Watch for discouragement disguised as realism. Gentle doesn't mean hesitant here; it means patient and constant.
