Advance becomes Excesses

Starting hexagram
Resulting hexagram

What this change means

The lake rising over the trees: the second, third, fifth and top lines move, and Wind settles below a Lake. The first and fourth lines of the resulting hexagram, 28 Excesses, don't move, and they hold the advice. Its first line says that to carry out an extraordinary project now, you should start cautiously, checking each step to build good foundations. Its fourth adds that you can receive help from those under you, but if you take advantage of it and giving and receiving fall out of balance, they'll withdraw and there will be loss. From Advance, where help comes easily, this is a warning about weight. Big plans need careful groundwork, and support from others needs to be returned. Watch for leaning on people without giving back. Strong foundations and fair exchange keep the structure from buckling.
