Nourishment becomes Innocence

What this change means

Heaven replaces the mountain when the fourth and fifth lines move, and thunder now rolls under an open sky. The fifth line leads: it goes against the norm, admitting how little it can provide alone, and seeks counsel; steadiness brings moderate results, but the great river can't be crossed yet. The fourth adds confidence: going after what properly feeds you, and showing others how to do the same, earns success and support, pursued with a tiger's watchful focus. The resulting hexagram, 25 Innocence, says that acting with a pure heart, free of hidden motives and true to what's right, lets blessings reach you, while ulterior aims bring obstacles. So check your motives. Help others because it's right, not to gain something from them. Know where your reach ends, ask for counsel, and keep your hunger honest. That's what keeps the way open.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. Line 5 of 27 Nourishment

Being aware of your limits in helping others and asking advice on how to do it will bring you moderate achievements, not extraordinary ones, but it's something.

Against the norm. Abiding in constancy brings good fortune. The great river cannot be crossed.

  2. Line 4 of 27 Nourishment

Getting the right nourishment for yourself and seeing how you can help others nourish themselves well brings you success and help.

Jaws upside down: good fortune. The tiger stares, intent and watchful; its desire chases on and on. No fault.

  3. The judgment of 27 Nourishment

Right now you need to take care of your physical and spiritual nourishment, so you have the resources you need in each area, and at the same time help others grow through what you do. Success lies in giving and receiving: take in what is good for you and share it with those around you.

Constancy brings good fortune. Watching the jaws; seeking for oneself what fills the mouth.

  4. The judgment of 25 Innocence

If you act with a pure heart, free of hidden motives and without straying from what is right, true to original human nature, you'll let the blessings of heaven reach you. Otherwise you'll meet obstacles and your affairs will become difficult.

Great success. Constancy is favorable. If it is not upright, there is calamity. It is not favorable to have somewhere to go.
