Nourishment becomes Inner Integrity

What this change means

Wind blows above the lake once the second and fifth lines move, and both lines go against the usual way of being fed. The fifth leads: it knows its limits in helping others and asks for advice, and that steadiness brings moderate achievements, though the great river still can't be crossed. The second shows the wrong version: expecting others to sort out your affairs and acting selfishly, which isn't favorable. The difference is honesty about what you can and can't do. The resulting hexagram, 61 Inner Integrity, says that when you're whole within, it shows outside, and your truth can move others. So be truthful about your needs and your limits. Ask for help as a peer, not a dependent. Take responsibility for what's yours, and the trust you build tends to do more than effort alone.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. Line 5 of 27 Nourishment

Being aware of your limits in helping others and asking advice on how to do it will bring you moderate achievements, not extraordinary ones, but it's something.

Against the norm. Abiding in constancy brings good fortune. The great river cannot be crossed.

  2. Line 2 of 27 Nourishment

Expecting others to sort out your affairs and acting selfishly isn't favorable.

Jaws turned upside down: against the norm. Seeking sustenance from the hill. Setting out brings misfortune.

  3. The judgment of 27 Nourishment

Right now you need to take care of your physical and spiritual nourishment, so you have the resources you need in each area, and at the same time help others grow through what you do. Success lies in giving and receiving: take in what is good for you and share it with those around you.

Constancy brings good fortune. Watching the jaws; seeking for oneself what fills the mouth.

  4. The judgment of 61 Inner Integrity

When you're whole within, it shows on the outside, and you'll be able to do great things and to let your truth move others toward great undertakings.

Piglets and fish: good fortune. It is favorable to cross the great river. Constancy is favorable.
