Nourishment becomes Well-Being

What this change means

Heaven and earth join as the second, third and top lines move, and the jaws open onto a time of plenty. The two judgments are held in balance. Nourishment warns that what feeds you also shapes you, so choose it with care and share it freely. The resulting hexagram, 11 Well-Being, describes a coming period of harmony and understanding, as unhelpful people and situations move off and supportive ones take their place. Enjoy it. The link between them is how you live in good times. Plenty can make moderation feel unnecessary, and that's exactly when habits slip. Receive the blessings with gratitude, keep your daily care steady, and share generously with the new people arriving. Well-being lasts longer when it's fed, not just consumed.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. The judgment of 27 Nourishment

Right now you need to take care of your physical and spiritual nourishment, so you have the resources you need in each area, and at the same time help others grow through what you do. Success lies in giving and receiving: take in what is good for you and share it with those around you.

Constancy brings good fortune. Watching the jaws; seeking for oneself what fills the mouth.

  2. The judgment of 11 Well-Being

A period of well-being, harmony and understanding is coming, and you can enjoy it. People and situations that weren't good for you are moving away, and in their place come people and situations that bring blessings and support. Heaven grants its gifts.

The small goes, the great comes. Good fortune. Success.

  3. Line 2 of 27 Nourishment

Expecting others to sort out your affairs and acting selfishly isn't favorable.

Jaws turned upside down: against the norm. Seeking sustenance from the hill. Setting out brings misfortune.

  4. Line 3 of 27 Nourishment

Watch the balance between your worldly food and your higher food closely: tending only to the first, and overindulging, brings misfortune.

Going against sustenance. Even with constancy, misfortune. For ten years, do not act. Nothing is favorable.

  5. Line 6 of 27 Nourishment

You gain the resources to take care of your own affairs, and you help others get theirs. This brings a great responsibility, but also great success.

From here comes sustenance. Danger; good fortune. It is favorable to cross the great river.
