Observing becomes Excesses

Starting hexagram
Resulting hexagram

What this change means

The lake drowns the trees as four lines move, the second, third, fourth and top. The two still lines of 28 Excesses guide the reading. The first says that an extraordinary project should begin with caution, each step checked so the foundations are sound. The fifth warns that if you focus on strengthening ties with those above you and neglect those you lead, your success will be limited.

The careful watching of the starting hexagram becomes the method for an exceptional time. Observe every step of a bold project, especially at the base. Look downward as well as upward: the people who depend on you matter as much as the ones you answer to. Watch for impressive moves built on weak foundations, and for courting those in power while forgetting your own team; balance and care make the extraordinary sustainable.
