Passion becomes Immaturity

What this change means

A spring breaks out below the Mountain as the second, fourth and top lines change. Both judgments carry equal weight. Passion's describes a drive that can inspire others and launch big projects. The resulting hexagram, 4 Immaturity, says you don't yet have the maturity you need for what you're after in this area. It asks you to act with humility: seek guidance and advice, and put what you learn into practice. Enthusiasm isn't the same as experience. That's no reason to lose heart, but it's a reason to slow down and learn. Find someone who knows the ground and listen. Then act on what you're told, decisively, and nurture your character as you go. The energy you have now becomes far more useful once it's guided.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. The judgment of 16 Passion

A time of passionate drive toward action. You can pass this passion on to others to gain their help, which lets you take on big projects with resolve and optimism. For these ventures to succeed and last, you can't look after only your own interests; you also need to keep in mind the needs of the people working with you.

It is favorable to install lords and set the army in motion.

  2. The judgment of 4 Immaturity

Be aware that you don't yet have the maturity you need to reach what you're after in the area of your question. Act with humility: ask for guidance, seek advice and counsel, and put what you're told into practice.

Success. I do not go looking for the ignorant youth; the ignorant youth comes looking for me. The first time the oracle is asked, I answer. A second and a third asking is an offense, and an offense gets no answer. Constancy is favorable.

  3. Line 2 of 16 Passion

Staying alert and reading the signs around you will let you know when to advance and when to withdraw.

Steady as stone. Not waiting for the day to end. Constancy brings good fortune.

  4. Line 4 of 16 Passion

When you're passionate and motivated enough about what you do, you don't need to ask anyone for help: help will come naturally.

The source of delight: great gain. Do not doubt. Friends gather like hair in a clasp.

  5. Line 6 of 16 Passion

It's important not to let passion blind you, or let it burn up the interest itself. If that happens, recognize the moment and relax: that way you'll succeed.

Delight in the dark. What is done changes. No fault.
