Decline becomes Wealth

What this change means

Fire now stands over Heaven: four lines move, the three lower ones and the fifth, and Decline becomes 14 Wealth. With so many changes, what speaks is the pair of lines that stay still in the new figure. Its fourth says not to let envy get the better of you: look at what you already have and be grateful. Its top line says heaven grants blessings, and everything is favorable right now. The resulting hexagram describes abundance, inner and outer, that lasts when you keep your character centered and cultivate generosity so the wealth reaches others. So the stagnation has given way to plenty. The danger is comparing yourself with others and feeling short. Count what's in your hands, give thanks, and share it. Prosperity that flows outward tends to stay; prosperity guarded with envy tends to sour.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. Line 4 of 14 Wealth, which stays still

It's important not to let envy get the better of you: look at the wealth you have and be grateful for it.

It does not flaunt its abundance. No fault.

  2. Line 6 of 14 Wealth, which stays still

Heaven grants you blessings; everything is favorable right now.

Heaven itself protects it. Good fortune. Nothing that is not favorable.

  3. The judgment of 12 Decline

You're surrounded by adverse people and situations. Avoid getting involved with those people, no matter what they offer you. Circumstances aren't good for acting or making decisions; it's time to withdraw to a safe place and wait for conditions to change. It's time to keep a low profile.

Stagnation: these are not worthy people. The constancy of the noble person is not favorable. The great goes, the small comes.

  4. Line 1 of 12 Decline

If you recognize the decline and withdraw in time, warning others about it, you'll succeed later on.

The grass is pulled up, and its tangled roots come too, each with its clump. Constancy brings good fortune. Success.

  5. Line 2 of 12 Decline

Even when adverse people and situations surround you, keeping your strength inside helps you get through this moment.

Embracing and obeying. For the petty person, good fortune; for the great person, stagnation. Success.

  6. Line 3 of 12 Decline

Little by little things will improve; it's a matter of waiting patiently for justice to be done.

    Embracing shame.

  7. Line 5 of 12 Decline

The stagnation is ending, but you still need to act with caution until the situation is fully stable.

Stagnation comes to rest. For the great person, good fortune. “It may be lost, it may be lost”: tied to the leafy mulberry.

  8. The judgment of 14 Wealth

A time of abundance and prosperity, both inner and outer. It's important to keep your character centered and to cultivate good deeds and generosity, so that this wealth lasts and reaches others.

    Great success.
