After the End becomes Right Action

Starting hexagram
Resulting hexagram

What this change means

Two lines at the base move, and the second leads: what you've lost will come back without being chased, the way the lost carriage screen turns up after seven days. The first line agrees from below: drag the wheels back, don't rush, and wait for better conditions, and there will be achievements. As both change, the Fire below becomes Wind, wood under water, and the resulting hexagram is 48 Right Action. That hexagram warns that opportunities are on your side, but they go to waste if you keep putting off decisions; the task is to use what you already have. The tension is subtle. Don't chase and don't rush, yet don't sit on your hands either. Work with the resources in front of you, act on what's ready, and let what's missing find its way back while you do.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. Line 2 of 63 After the End

Don't try to recover what you lose for now: it will come back to you naturally.

The wife loses the screen of her carriage. Do not chase it: in seven days it is found.

  2. Line 1 of 63 After the End

If you try to move ahead too fast, you won't get results. But if you can stop and wait for better conditions, there will be achievements.

Drags back on its wheels; wets its tail. No fault.

  3. The judgment of 63 After the End

You're in a situation where you'll have a passing success: everything seems to be in your favor, and at the end comes a period of stagnation. If you prepare for it ahead of time, you'll be able to soften its effects.

Success in small things. Constancy is favorable. At first, good fortune; in the end, disorder.

  4. The judgment of 48 Right Action

You're at a moment when opportunities are on your side. But if you don't know how to use them because you keep putting off decisions and actions, being in the right place at the right time won't do you any good. It's not about looking for new things but about making use of what you have, or there will be loss.

The town is changed, the well is not. Nothing lost, nothing gained. They come and go, and draw from the well. Nearly there, the rope does not yet reach the well; if the jar breaks, misfortune.
