Thrift becomes Renewal

What this change means

Fire flares in the middle of the lake: the second, third and fourth lines move, and the hexagram becomes 49 Renewal. The judgments weigh the same. The starting one speaks of prudence, keeping your strength and means in reserve so you're ready, and of a measure that mustn't turn bitter. The resulting one speaks of shedding a skin: opening to change, adopting new ways, and letting go of what no longer does its job, each step taken at the right moment. The bridge between them is discernment. Thrift taught you to weigh what's worth keeping. Now use that same judgment to decide what has to go. Some old limits and habits may be part of the skin you're outgrowing. Don't cling to them out of fear. Make room, and time each change carefully.
