What this change means

Thunder wakes beneath heaven as the second, third and fourth lines move, and Small Things becomes 25 Innocence. Three lines changing means the two judgments speak equally. The first describes a promised success that hasn't come, a sky of dense clouds without rain, where obstacles still need clearing and small actions suit the moment. The second sets the condition for what comes next: act with a pure heart, without hidden motives and without straying from what's right, and the blessings of heaven can reach you; otherwise your affairs grow difficult. Read together, they ask you to spend the waiting time getting your motives clean. The delay isn't only an outside obstacle. It's a chance to check why you want what you want, and to drop any angle you've been working. Do the small things honestly and the larger thing has room to arrive.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. The judgment of 9 Small Things

You're facing a situation that promises success, but it isn't time yet. There are still obstacles on the way that you need to resolve. For now you can take small actions and wait for the right moment to act on a large scale.

Success. Dense clouds and no rain, from my western outskirts.

  2. The judgment of 25 Innocence

If you act with a pure heart, free of hidden motives and without straying from what is right, true to original human nature, you'll let the blessings of heaven reach you. Otherwise you'll meet obstacles and your affairs will become difficult.

Great success. Constancy is favorable. If it is not upright, there is calamity. It is not favorable to have somewhere to go.

  3. Line 2 of 9 Small Things

Even though circumstances push you to advance, for now it's time to go back and prepare to act at a better moment.

    Led back. Good fortune.

  4. Line 3 of 9 Small Things

Trying to advance at any cost only brings bigger obstacles from outside.

The spokes come loose from the cart. Husband and wife glare at each other.

  5. Line 4 of 9 Small Things

If you act fairly, you may meet difficulties at first, but little by little the obstacles will fade until you reach your goal.

There is sincere trust. The blood goes, the fear leaves. No fault.
