Conflict becomes Nourishment

What this change means

Thunder below the mountain: four lines move, the first, second, fourth and fifth, and the open jaws of 27 Nourishment replace the standoff. Its two still lines guide the reading. The third warns you to watch the balance between worldly food and higher food; tending only to the first, and overindulging, brings misfortune. The top line says you gain the means to take care of your own affairs and help others with theirs, a great responsibility and a great success.

So the conflict resolves into a question of what you consume and what you provide. Don't comfort yourself with excess after the struggle. Feed your spirit as well as your appetite, and use your resources to support others. Watch for indulgence passing for relief. Taking care of people well is where this change leads.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. Line 3 of 27 Nourishment, which stays still

Watch the balance between your worldly food and your higher food closely: tending only to the first, and overindulging, brings misfortune.

Going against sustenance. Even with constancy, misfortune. For ten years, do not act. Nothing is favorable.

  2. Line 6 of 27 Nourishment, which stays still

You gain the resources to take care of your own affairs, and you help others get theirs. This brings a great responsibility, but also great success.

From here comes sustenance. Danger; good fortune. It is favorable to cross the great river.

  3. The judgment of 6 Conflict

A conflict is arising that can't be solved by action; cleverness works better than force. Recognizing that you can't resolve anything right now, letting events take their course, and seeking the advice of someone wise in this area will help you get out of the conflict.

There is sincere trust, but it is blocked. Caution: stopping halfway brings good fortune; going all the way to the end, misfortune. It is favorable to see the great person. It is not favorable to cross the great river.

  4. Line 1 of 6 Conflict

Even if the situation invites gossip, holding firm is your best move.

Not dragging the matter out. A few words against; in the end, good fortune.

  5. Line 2 of 6 Conflict

Withdrawing in time, even if it looks cowardly, is the best move right now.

Unable to win the lawsuit. Turning back, slipping away; the people of the town, three hundred households, come to no harm.

  6. Line 4 of 6 Conflict

Accepting the adverse conditions of this moment without fighting them, and staying flexible, will lead you to success in the middle of difficulties.

Unable to win the lawsuit. Turning back, accepting the decree, changing. Calm constancy brings good fortune.

  7. Line 5 of 6 Conflict

If you've acted rightly, whoever has to make the decisions that involve you will decide in your favor.

    Lawsuit. Great good fortune.

  8. The judgment of 27 Nourishment

Right now you need to take care of your physical and spiritual nourishment, so you have the resources you need in each area, and at the same time help others grow through what you do. Success lies in giving and receiving: take in what is good for you and share it with those around you.

Constancy brings good fortune. Watching the jaws; seeking for oneself what fills the mouth.
