Passivity becomes Excesses

Starting hexagram
Resulting hexagram

What this change means

The lake drowns the trees as the four middle lines move, and the soft Earth suddenly carries a heavy load. Attention goes to the still first and top lines of the resulting hexagram, 28 Excesses. The first says that to carry out an extraordinary project, start cautiously and check each step to build good foundations. The top says that if, despite the drawbacks, you take on something extraordinary, you'll face danger and loss, but you'll know you did everything in your power. So something big is on the table. Weigh it honestly. If you go ahead, go slowly at first, and make the base sound before you build on it. Expect costs. Choose with your eyes open, and accept that doing your utmost may matter more here than any guaranteed outcome.
