What this change means

Now the fourth line declares that waiting is over. Choose your aim and move toward it without detours, and progress will build and last. The old text pictures a campaign carried out with the force of thunder, rewarded after three years by a great kingdom, and regret falls away. As this line moves, the Fire above becomes Mountain, and a spring breaks out at its foot: the resulting hexagram is 4 Immaturity. It reminds you that you may not yet have the maturity to reach your aim in this area, and asks you to seek guidance and put it into practice. So act, but act as a learner. Set a clear goal and move toward it, and along the way ask those who know more. Determination combined with humility makes the long effort pay off.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. Line 4 of 64 Transition

The time for action has come. Define what you want and head straight for it: you'll make growing, lasting progress.

Constancy brings good fortune. Regret vanishes. With the force of thunder the land of Guifang is attacked; in three years comes a reward from the great kingdom.

  2. The judgment of 64 Transition

Things are coming together so that success can arrive and you can take on great projects, but some things still haven't fallen into place. So stay alert, so you don't make mistakes born of immaturity, or you'll drift from your goals. This can happen even after you've gotten what you want: you stop, you hesitate, and mistakes happen.

Success. The little fox has nearly crossed and wets its tail. Nothing is favorable.

  3. The judgment of 4 Immaturity

Be aware that you don't yet have the maturity you need to reach what you're after in the area of your question. Act with humility: ask for guidance, seek advice and counsel, and put what you're told into practice.

Success. I do not go looking for the ignorant youth; the ignorant youth comes looking for me. The first time the oracle is asked, I answer. A second and a third asking is an offense, and an offense gets no answer. Constancy is favorable.
