What this change means

Wind passes over the earth as three lines change, the image of looking closely before acting. The two judgments are weighed side by side. The starting hexagram notes that much is ready but some things aren't, and that without attention you can make immature mistakes, especially when you stop or hesitate. The resulting hexagram, 20 Observing, says observe before you act: you may be inspiring others now, and at the same time you need to watch those who inspire you, so things unfold at the right moment. Together they ask for a pause of attention, not inaction. Study what's still missing and who can teach you. Notice the influence you already have. Then move when the timing is clear, and let careful observation do what impatience would spoil.
