After the End becomes Passivity
What this change means
Three lines change and both trigrams become Earth: fire and water both settle into open, yielding ground. The two judgments are weighed side by side. The starting one says your success is real but brief, and that a stalled time comes after it, eased if you prepare. The resulting hexagram, 2 Passivity, says initiative won't serve you now; it's wiser to follow someone else's lead and keep working on your plans with patience. Taken together, they describe how to meet the slowdown: not by forcing more action, but by receiving. Hand over the lead where that makes sense, keep working quietly, and let the pace be set by circumstances. Patience here is a form of preparation. It saves the energy you'll need when the time for initiative comes back.
What to read, in order
Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.
- The judgment of 63 After the End
You're in a situation where you'll have a passing success: everything seems to be in your favor, and at the end comes a period of stagnation. If you prepare for it ahead of time, you'll be able to soften its effects.
Success in small things. Constancy is favorable. At first, good fortune; in the end, disorder.
- The judgment of 2 Passivity
This is not the time to take the initiative to achieve things. It's better to let others guide you and to keep at your projects with patience.
Great success. The constancy of a mare is favorable. The noble person has somewhere to go: going ahead, they lose the way; following behind, they find someone to guide them. It is favorable to find friends in the southwest and to lose them in the northeast. Calm constancy brings good fortune.
- Line 1 of 63 After the End
If you try to move ahead too fast, you won't get results. But if you can stop and wait for better conditions, there will be achievements.
Drags back on its wheels; wets its tail. No fault.
- Line 3 of 63 After the End
If you want to expand right now, you'll have to use extreme measures to clear the obstacles in the way.
The High Ancestor attacks the land of Guifang; in three years he conquers it. Do not employ the petty person.
- Line 5 of 63 After the End
If your actions come from the heart and are genuine, a small action can bring great results.
The eastern neighbor slaughters an ox; it is not worth the simple offering of the western neighbor, who truly receives the blessing.
