Thrift becomes Initial Obstacles

What this change means

Here the problem is the opposite of excess: holding back when you should go. The second line says that when the moment to move forward comes, hurry, because hesitating without acting brings trouble. The old image is someone who won't step out past the gate, even when the road is open, and misfortune follows. As this line moves, the Lake below becomes Thunder, and the hexagram turns into 3 Initial Obstacles. Beginnings are hard now, and you may not be able to do everything directly; allies who act on your behalf can help. But don't use the difficulty as an excuse to wait forever. Stay alert to the opening, and when you see it, take it. Measure is a virtue only when it serves the timing. Past that point, restraint turns into a door you keep shut on yourself.

What to read, in order
