Inner Peace becomes Nourishment
What this change means
Thunder rumbles at the foot of a mountain as four lines move, Thunder below and Mountain above, the shape of an open mouth. The still lines of the new figure lead the reading. The first warns that ingratitude for what you have, and envying what others have, will hold back your achievements. The third asks you to watch the balance between worldly food and higher food; tending only to the first, and overindulging, brings misfortune. The resulting hexagram, 27 Nourishment, asks you to take care of your physical and spiritual nourishment while helping others grow. This ties back to the starting lines about pleasure and indulgence. Be grateful, feed your spirit as well as your appetites, and share what nourishes you.
What to read, in order
Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.
- Line 1 of 27 Nourishment, which stays still
Being ungrateful for what you have and busying yourself envying what others have will hold back your achievements.
You let go of your sacred tortoise and watch my jaw working. Misfortune.
- Line 3 of 27 Nourishment, which stays still
Watch the balance between your worldly food and your higher food closely: tending only to the first, and overindulging, brings misfortune.
Going against sustenance. Even with constancy, misfortune. For ten years, do not act. Nothing is favorable.
- The judgment of 58 Inner Peace
You're in a time of calm and inner peace that lets you achieve great things. Spending time with people whose energy is like yours will nourish and recharge you to reach your aims. Still, don't lose sight of your goals, or you'll slide into inertia.
Success. Constancy is favorable.
- Line 2 of 58 Inner Peace
Take great care over whom you spend time with and what activities you choose, because if you let yourself be drawn into worldly things without cultivating your inner life, you'll stray from your goals.
Joy with trust. Good fortune. Regret vanishes.
- Line 4 of 58 Inner Peace
You're moving between serenity and indulgence. Indulgence leads to empty pleasure; serenity, to inner joy. That is the true path to success.
Joy that bargains, never at rest. Once the ill is set apart, there is gladness.
- Line 5 of 58 Inner Peace
Contact with the wrong people can lead you into distraction and addiction. Once you realize it and put a stop to it, you'll get back on the path to inner peace.
Trusting what strips away: there is danger.
- Line 6 of 58 Inner Peace
If you haven't developed real inner peace, you're easy prey for shallow entertainments, which will win you over bit by bit until you lose yourself in them. Now you're only in the hands of fate; you have no control.
Joy that draws on.
- The judgment of 27 Nourishment
Right now you need to take care of your physical and spiritual nourishment, so you have the resources you need in each area, and at the same time help others grow through what you do. Success lies in giving and receiving: take in what is good for you and share it with those around you.
Constancy brings good fortune. Watching the jaws; seeking for oneself what fills the mouth.
