Gentleness becomes Treading Carefully

Starting hexagram
Resulting hexagram

What this change means

The first, third and fourth lines move: the lower Wind becomes Lake and the upper becomes Heaven, the sky above, the lake below, each in its place. With three lines changing, both judgments weigh the same. The starting hexagram counsels gentleness: no pressure or force, a single path held steadily, the slow buildup of small actions, and support sought from those above. The resulting hexagram, 10 Treading Carefully, describes a delicate situation in which knowing how to conduct yourself is everything. Moving with awareness and courtesy, you can make even possible rivals give ground, and perhaps become allies. The two judgments ask the same thing in different ways: a soft step that doesn't provoke. Watch your manner as much as your aims. Tact, patience and good conduct are what get you through here, not insistence.
