What this change means
The third line is the one in motion, and the Fire below turns to Thunder: energy wants to break loose, but this line counsels neither haste nor delay. Pushing ahead blindly brings trouble, and holding on too tightly is risky as well. What it asks is that you look for signs and wait until word of the change has come round more than once; then trust takes hold and you can act at the right moment. The resulting hexagram, 17 Adapting, shows the attitude that fits. This is a time to lead and follow both. If you recognize the role life is handing you now and act genuinely from it, support for what you're doing tends to grow. So listen before you move, check the timing against what you see around you, and let the change gather agreement rather than forcing it through on your own.

- Line 3 of 49 Renewal
Neither dragging things out nor acting in too much of a hurry is the right way to go about it now. Ask for signs, so you act at the right moment.
Setting out brings misfortune. Constancy is in danger. When word of the change has come round three times, there is sincere trust.
- The judgment of 49 Renewal
You're in a time of renewal, like shedding a skin. Open yourself to change and to new ways of doing things. Success lies in taking each step at exactly the right moment, and in weighing what needs to change and what doesn't, what is no longer doing its job. Don't be afraid to let it go: you need to make room for the new to arrive.
When the day has come, there is trust. Great success. Constancy is favorable. Regret vanishes.
- The judgment of 17 Adapting
It's a time both to lead and to follow. If you can see the place life is asking you to take right now, and act genuinely from wherever you belong, you'll gain more leadership and more support for what you do.
Great success. Constancy is favorable. No fault.
