What this change means
Fire takes the place of earth under the lake as the first and third lines move, and a gathering becomes the start of a change. The third line leads: you're knocking on a door that doesn't open, and the way through is a person who can introduce you, not more force. The first line, beneath it, says the same from another side: your hesitation is part of the obstacle, and once you decide, help comes. The resulting hexagram, 49 Renewal, asks you to shed an old skin. Perhaps the old approach to these people, or your old idea of which group you belong to, has run its course. Weigh what needs to change and what still works, and time each step carefully. A small distress is the price of moving on, and it's a small one. Let go of what no longer serves, make up your mind, and seek the right bridge; that's how a new circle forms.
What to read, in order
Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.
- Line 3 of 45 Meeting
You're trying to meet with people who aren't willing. If you look for someone who can bring you closer to that group, you'll get help.
Gathering, sighing. Nothing is favorable. Going: no fault. Small distress.
- Line 1 of 45 Meeting
You know you need to meet with people who will support you, but you're unsure whether to do it. If you finally make up your mind and act, you'll get help.
There is sincere trust, but not to the end: now disorder, now gathering. If you cry out, one clasp of the hand and laughter returns. Do not worry. Going: no fault.
- The judgment of 45 Meeting
A very favorable situation is coming, with everything ready for you to take the next step toward your goals. You can ask for help and meet with those who will support you. It's a time to take on important things, do some kind of spiritual practice, and prepare in case anything unexpected happens.
Success. The king comes to his temple. It is favorable to see the great person. Success. Constancy is favorable. Offering large animals brings good fortune. It is favorable to have somewhere to go.
- The judgment of 49 Renewal
You're in a time of renewal, like shedding a skin. Open yourself to change and to new ways of doing things. Success lies in taking each step at exactly the right moment, and in weighing what needs to change and what doesn't, what is no longer doing its job. Don't be afraid to let it go: you need to make room for the new to arrive.
When the day has come, there is trust. Great success. Constancy is favorable. Regret vanishes.
