Biting becomes Lack of Firmness
What this change means
Four lines move, every one but the fourth and the top, and Biting becomes 44 Lack of Firmness. The guidance now comes from those two still lines of the resulting hexagram. The fourth says that, for now, it can be wise to keep difficult people near you, provided you can hold your boundaries with them. The top line says that keeping your distance from unsuitable people may make you look proud, but that's still better than getting entangled. The resulting hexagram warns of situations or people you think you can control and don't take seriously enough. So the firmness of Biting is needed, just aimed differently: not at an outside obstacle but at your own boundaries. Decide clearly how close is too close. Being thought aloof is a small price for not losing your footing.
