What this change means
A spring breaks out at the foot of the mountain as the second and fifth lines change. The fifth leads: look responsibly at how similar situations went before, and apply what you learn to correct course now. The second line warns about the opposite habit, a subjective view that stays on the surface and never reaches the heart of the matter.
The resulting hexagram, 4 Immaturity, says you may not yet have the maturity needed for what you're after. Act humbly, ask for guidance, seek advice and put it into practice. This movement is about learning to see. Your own perspective isn't enough yet, and that's fine; the past and wiser people can fill the gaps. Ask, listen and apply. Watch for defending your first impression when someone more experienced offers a different reading; growth here begins with admitting what you can't yet see.
What to read, in order
Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.
- Line 5 of 20 Observing
If you observe responsibly, you'll see how similar situations turned out in the past and can apply the corrections now.
Contemplating my own life. For the noble person, no fault.
- Line 2 of 20 Observing
If your perception is subjective, you'll stay on the surface and never reach the heart of the situation.
Peeking through a crack. A woman's constancy is favorable.
- The judgment of 20 Observing
Observe before you act. Right now you're a source of inspiration for others, and at the same time you need to observe those who inspire you. This will let things unfold at the right moment, and perfectly.
Hands washed, the offering not yet made. There is sincere trust, solemn and grave.
- The judgment of 4 Immaturity
Be aware that you don't yet have the maturity you need to reach what you're after in the area of your question. Act with humility: ask for guidance, seek advice and counsel, and put what you're told into practice.
Success. I do not go looking for the ignorant youth; the ignorant youth comes looking for me. The first time the oracle is asked, I answer. A second and a third asking is an offense, and an offense gets no answer. Constancy is favorable.
