Abundance becomes Immaturity

Starting hexagram
Resulting hexagram

What this change means

Five lines change, leaving only the fifth in place, and the figure becomes a spring under a mountain. The reading rests on that still line of the resulting hexagram, 4 Immaturity: if you recognize what you don't know in the matter of your question and seek advice, good results follow. It echoes the fifth line of Abundance, which also stays open to counsel. The resulting hexagram adds that you don't yet have the maturity needed for what you want. Act with humility, ask for guidance, and put what you're told into practice. So the full season becomes a time for learning. Don't pretend to more experience than you have. Find someone who knows, listen, and then do the work they point to. Admitting a gap is the first step to closing it.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. Line 5 of 4 Immaturity, which stays still

If you recognize your lack of knowledge in the area of your question and seek advice, you'll get good results.

    A child's ignorance. Good fortune.

  2. The judgment of 55 Abundance

You're growing toward a period of satisfaction and abundance. It will last for a while, and when it ends, stay calm, without sadness or worry. Enjoy it while it lasts, and when it wanes, keep your spirits up and enjoy what you've achieved.

Success. The king reaches it. Do not grieve: the noonday sun is fitting.

  3. Line 1 of 55 Abundance

It's a very favorable time, but it asks for determined, energetic action from you to make the results greater.

Meets the lord who is its match. Even for ten days, no fault. Going earns esteem.

  4. Line 2 of 55 Abundance

Although you're resolved and conditions are good for getting what you want, the wrong people are standing in your way. If you keep doing what's right and don't let yourself be pulled off course, you'll succeed.

Full is the awning: at noon the Dipper is seen. Going earns suspicion and harm. If there is sincere trust that unfolds, good fortune.

  5. Line 3 of 55 Abundance

If your spirits sink, any obstacle, however small, will stop you from reaching what you want.

Full is the curtain: at noon the faint small stars are seen. The right arm is broken. No fault.

  6. Line 4 of 55 Abundance

The shadows and obstacles that came up for a while are beginning to fade. If you act wisely and decisively, everything will go well.

Full is the awning: at noon the Dipper is seen. Meets the lord who is its like. Good fortune.

  7. Line 6 of 55 Abundance

Your pride may get in the way of what you want and delay your success.

Full is the house, the home screened over. Peering through the door: silence, no one there. For three years no one is seen. Misfortune.

  8. The judgment of 4 Immaturity

Be aware that you don't yet have the maturity you need to reach what you're after in the area of your question. Act with humility: ask for guidance, seek advice and counsel, and put what you're told into practice.

Success. I do not go looking for the ignorant youth; the ignorant youth comes looking for me. The first time the oracle is asked, I answer. A second and a third asking is an offense, and an offense gets no answer. Constancy is favorable.
