Gradual Progress becomes Decline

What this change means

The third and fourth lines move, the fourth leading, and the Mountain becomes Earth beneath a Heaven that no longer meets it. The fourth line says that events beyond your control have arrived mid-course, and that careful, wise responses keep you safe. The third warns what happens if you force things: the advance fails. The resulting hexagram, 12 Decline, describes the climate. Adverse people and situations surround you, conditions don't favor big decisions, and the wise course is to withdraw to a safe place and keep a low profile. Avoid getting involved with those people, whatever they offer. This isn't a time to push for the high plain. Find a secure branch, defend what you have, and wait for conditions to change. Patience here isn't passivity; it's the choice that protects your future progress.

  3. The judgment of 53 Gradual Progress

  4. The judgment of 12 Decline

You're surrounded by adverse people and situations. Avoid getting involved with those people, no matter what they offer you. Circumstances aren't good for acting or making decisions; it's time to withdraw to a safe place and wait for conditions to change. It's time to keep a low profile.

Stagnation: these are not worthy people. The constancy of the noble person is not favorable. The great goes, the small comes.
