Decrease becomes Immaturity

What this change means

Only the first line moves, and the Lake at the base of Decrease turns to Water: a spring now rises under the mountain. The line asks you to finish what's yours before turning outward. Once your own tasks are done, you can spend time and energy helping others, but only when they ask for it, and with a sense of how much to give. Going quickly when the work is complete is fine; giving more than the moment needs is not. The resulting hexagram, 4 Immaturity, adds a sobering note: in the area of your question you may not yet have all the maturity you need. So help with humility, and be just as ready to receive guidance as to offer it. Ask, listen, and put good advice into practice. This is still a season of restraint and saving, so measure your help the way you'd measure any resource you can't afford to waste.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. Line 1 of 41 Decrease

Once your tasks are done, this is a time when you can use your time and energy to help others, as long as they ask for that help.

When the work is done, go quickly. No fault. Weigh how much to take away.

  2. The judgment of 41 Decrease

It's a time for moderation and saving: conserving your resources and energy matters a great deal now. A period of growth will follow, but for now you need to stay aware and avoid excess of every kind while you get ready to take on big projects.

There is sincere trust. Great good fortune. No fault. Constancy is possible. It is favorable to have somewhere to go. What to offer? Two bowls will do for the offering.

  3. The judgment of 4 Immaturity

Be aware that you don't yet have the maturity you need to reach what you're after in the area of your question. Act with humility: ask for guidance, seek advice and counsel, and put what you're told into practice.

Success. I do not go looking for the ignorant youth; the ignorant youth comes looking for me. The first time the oracle is asked, I answer. A second and a third asking is an offense, and an offense gets no answer. Constancy is favorable.
