Conflict becomes Well-Being

What this change means

Heaven and earth join: five lines move, every one except the second, and a single still line of 11 Well-Being carries the reading. It says decisive action that takes you out of your comfort zone is favorable, along with recognizing the people around you; there's no need to push anyone away, only to know each person's nature.

In 6 Conflict, this same second line counseled withdrawing from a fight you can't win, and here it turns into something larger: knowing people well instead of fighting them. The dispute gives way to harmony. Act boldly, but inclusively. Look at each person clearly, and make room for them. Watch for excluding former opponents, and for retreating into comfort when the moment asks for a step forward.

What to read, in order

Marked ● is what Zhu Xi's tradition puts at the center for this number of moving lines.

  1. Line 2 of 11 Well-Being, which stays still

It's favorable to take decisive action that gets you out of your comfort zone and to recognize the people around you. There's no need to push anyone away; it's enough to know each person's nature.

Embracing the untilled. Wading across the river; not forgetting the distant; leaving friends behind. So it is honored on the middle way.

  2. The judgment of 6 Conflict

A conflict is arising that can't be solved by action; cleverness works better than force. Recognizing that you can't resolve anything right now, letting events take their course, and seeking the advice of someone wise in this area will help you get out of the conflict.

There is sincere trust, but it is blocked. Caution: stopping halfway brings good fortune; going all the way to the end, misfortune. It is favorable to see the great person. It is not favorable to cross the great river.

  3. Line 1 of 6 Conflict

Even if the situation invites gossip, holding firm is your best move.

Not dragging the matter out. A few words against; in the end, good fortune.

  4. Line 3 of 6 Conflict

What you've gained honestly can't be taken from you. Even if gossip comes up, don't be intimidated; hold firm.

Feeding on old virtue. Constancy is in danger; in the end, good fortune. If it serves in the king's affairs, no achievement of its own.

  5. Line 4 of 6 Conflict

Accepting the adverse conditions of this moment without fighting them, and staying flexible, will lead you to success in the middle of difficulties.

Unable to win the lawsuit. Turning back, accepting the decree, changing. Calm constancy brings good fortune.

  6. Line 5 of 6 Conflict

If you've acted rightly, whoever has to make the decisions that involve you will decide in your favor.

    Lawsuit. Great good fortune.

  7. Line 6 of 6 Conflict

Insisting on being right at this moment will only make you lose.

Perhaps a belt of honor is bestowed; before the morning is out, it is stripped away three times.

  8. The judgment of 11 Well-Being

A period of well-being, harmony and understanding is coming, and you can enjoy it. People and situations that weren't good for you are moving away, and in their place come people and situations that bring blessings and support. Heaven grants its gifts.

The small goes, the great comes. Good fortune. Success.
